History of the Solomon Episcopal Conference Center

The Solomon Episcopal Conference was founded under the leadership of The Rt. Rev’d James B. Brown, Ninth Bishop of Louisiana. In 1981, a resolution was passed at the Annual Convention to create and build a full service conference and retreat center in southeast Louisiana. In 1988, Mr. Theodore “Teddy” and Mrs. Doris Solomon purchased and then donated 80 acres of land to the Diocese of Louisiana. A ground breaking ceremony was held on July 7, 1990. The conference under the name “A Special Place” opened for business on January 1, 1993. A few years later The conference center was officially named the Solomon Episcopal Conference Center. The conference center has since expanded to its current size of 172 acres. For a full history of the Solomon Episcopal Conference Center, visit: https://seccla.org/history/.
