When she was consecrated in November 2022, the Right Rev. Shannon Rogers Duckworth became the 12th (and first female) bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana. In the more than three years since Duckworth has settled into the role, overseeing the diocese’s 48 congregations and approximately 15,000 congregants across 24 parishes in south Louisiana.

Duckworth, 51, is a Mississippi native and graduated from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi, with degrees in English and history. She has masters of divinity from the General Theological Seminary in New York and was ordained as a priest in 2001. She served at churches in Mississippi from 2001 to 2013. She was canon to the ordinary of the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana from 2013 until she was elected bishop. She is married and has two sons.
