Bishop Thompson, the 11th Bishop of the Diocese of Louisiana announced in March last year that he is retiring in November 2022. The Diocese includes the two largest metro areas in Louisiana, New Orleans and Baton Rouge, along with smaller churches from Innis to Thibodaux, totaling 48 congregations. The Bishop is the spiritual leader of all Episcopalians in our Diocese.

Months ago, the selection process for the 12th Bishop of the Diocese of Louisiana began with the appointment of the Search Committee and the Transition Committee. These committees are made up of equal numbers of clergy and lay persons from throughout the Diocese. We are working to help select the next bishop at an election by delegates from each congregation on May 14, 2022 and to transition the new bishop to his/her ordination and consecration on November 19, 2022.

The Search Committee will be providing more information on bishops and our process on a biweekly basis.
