Joseph and Yusuf: One Story, Two Scriptures

St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church in Metairie invites the community to an interfaith Bible study exploring the story of Joseph (Yusuf in Arabic) in the Bible and the Qur’an. Co-led by the Rev. Taylor Vines, Rector of St. Augustine’s, and Dr. Anwer Bashi, President of the Jefferson Muslim Association, this four-part series will explore themes of faith, family, betrayal, forgiveness, and God’s providence through Christian and Muslim perspectives.
By studying these sacred stories together, participants will have opportunities to deepen their own faith, discover new perspectives on familiar passages, and build relationships across religious traditions.
The series begins Thursday, October 22, with Islam 101: An Introduction to Muslim Faith and Practice, led by Dr. Bashi. The four-part Joseph/Yusuf study follows on October 29, November 5, November 19, and December 3.
Join us for a potluck supper at 6:30 PM, followed by study and conversation from 7:00–8:00 PM, at St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church, 3412 Haring Road, Metairie, LA.
All are welcome! No prior knowledge of either scripture is needed, and participants may attend any session without having attended previous gatherings. Come share a meal, explore these sacred stories, and enjoy an evening of learning and fellowship.
