On January 9, 2015, Bishop Morris Thompson gave the invocation at a memorial and wreath laying ceremony at the site of the British headquarters and hospital during the Battle of New Orleans. The ceremony, organized by the Daughters of the British Empire in Louisiana, was held to remember and honor the lives and bravery of soldiers who died in the battle. Speakers included descendants of British Generals Pakenham and Gibbs, both who lost their lives in the battle, and British and American dignitaries who spoke of the peace and friendship between the two countries since the battle ended 200 years ago.
