Successful Earth Day at Solomon Center

Despite a stormy start, the Environmental Evangelism Commission was determined to make its Earth Day Celebration happen—and it did. Once the rain passed, participants made their way to Solomon Center, where Fr. Fred Devall led a special bird walk. Woodpeckers, ducks, and many other birds made their post-storm appearance.

Throughout the day, there were plenty of opportunities to paint with natural materials, get a little messy, and plant native species.

A special thank you to St. Michael’s parishioner Nanette Ledet, who shared her knowledge of monarchs, guiding us through the butterfly life cycle and offering practical ways to help sustain this endangered species.

The sky fully cleared for pool time (FYI—the pool is in glorious shape and ready for spring and summer swims! We’re looking forward to seeing it full and lively during the Little Box of Good News Family Camp on Labor Day Weekend).

Solomon Center provided lunch from the grill right on time!

More than anything, the day was made whole by being together—creating, digging in the dirt, and fellowshipping—surrounded by God’s beauty.

“How many are your works, Lord! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.”

Psalm 104:24-25

Mary's inability to recognize Jesus doesn't surprise me. Flowing tears and swollen eyes and the overwhelming noise of grief make it hard for any of us to see clearly. She doesn’t see the awful thing she is expecting to see, the sight she has prepared herself...

In today’s readings, the children of Israel are on the cusp of entering the Promised Land, the place they have been heading toward for forty long years. The psalms compare physical thirst and hunger to longing for God’s grace and mercy, leaning into God’s promises...

Jesus teaches us that compassion begets compassion. I'm not sure what sparked a shift within me, but I clearly remember standing in a checkout line in Target and making a choice to be really kind to a very clearly distracted cashier. This prompted a conv....(View...

If I say I love and follow Jesus, that love will be expressed in my actions and attitudes toward others, in relationship with others. With heart and mind and body, Jesus comes to us. He prays, worships, notices, cares, touches, cries, eats, drinks, and laughs up close...

Born in the late 1490’s, the little girl Argula von Grumbach wasn’t supposed to read the Bible or be educated in any real sense. Her father disagreed with this societal norm, making sure she voraciously read and memorized the Bible. I imagine she read about Rahab...

The women of the Bible are commendable examples of faith and courage, and none of them present simple stories. Their stories, Rahab’s among them, are testaments to what we can be when we are at our best—merciful, compassionate, and graceful under pressure. ....(View...
