Successful Earth Day at Solomon Center

Despite a stormy start, the Environmental Evangelism Commission was determined to make its Earth Day Celebration happen—and it did. Once the rain passed, participants made their way to Solomon Center, where Fr. Fred Devall led a special bird walk. Woodpeckers, ducks, and many other birds made their post-storm appearance.

Throughout the day, there were plenty of opportunities to paint with natural materials, get a little messy, and plant native species.

A special thank you to St. Michael’s parishioner Nanette Ledet, who shared her knowledge of monarchs, guiding us through the butterfly life cycle and offering practical ways to help sustain this endangered species.

The sky fully cleared for pool time (FYI—the pool is in glorious shape and ready for spring and summer swims! We’re looking forward to seeing it full and lively during the Little Box of Good News Family Camp on Labor Day Weekend).

Solomon Center provided lunch from the grill right on time!

More than anything, the day was made whole by being together—creating, digging in the dirt, and fellowshipping—surrounded by God’s beauty.

“How many are your works, Lord! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.”

Psalm 104:24-25

Sometimes, I have difficulty finding God. Even when I am in church, singing the hymns and sacred songs, praying the historical and biblical prayers, listening to the message from those who have studied the Bible and theology, I don’t always feel close to God....

This verse reminds me of a friend. After only a few days of studying a language, he would begin to complain about the details that made that language difficult. Soon after, he would completely stop studying it. Then, in a bit, he would start the cycle again with...

In my gardening experience, I have learned that the rain nourishes my plants in different ways: It feeds the plants and washes off any dust or dirt or even excrement. The rain turns that debris into fertilizer, signaling the seeds to germinate, and encouraging fungi...

Will my son live? I can imagine that this question is racing through the royal official’s mind when he begs Jesus to heal his son. He must be anxious about his son’s condition, and his faith is shaken. Desperate and wondering if his child will l....(View this reading...

In this chapter of John, Jesus starts his conversation with the Samaritan woman by talking about her marital situation. However, rather than heaping condemnation after condemnation, Jesus teaches her. He chooses to continue the conversation without dwelling on the...

So is it perfect obedience or is it our faith that makes us God’s children? A girl in my preschool class sat crying at the bottom of the slide. I asked her what was wrong, but she wouldn’t say. Across the playground, my teaching assistant spoke to her gr....(View this...
