SUMMARY:Compline: Hope Is the Work of a Faithful People
DESCRIPTION:Date: Wednesday\, January 28\, 2026\nLocation: Facebook Live\, Instagram LIVE\, & You Tube\nTime: 7 p.m. \nIn a world marked by violence\, fear\, and the pain of deportations and ICE raids\, we need sacred space to pray and to ground ourselves in hope. \nThe ancient contemplative prayer of Compline offers exactly that: a chance to pause and to find strength for the work of love that lies ahead. \nTo reiterate Bishop Duckworth’s words from her recent statement: \nHope\, for Christians\, is not passive. Hope is a discipline. Hope is choosing\, again and again\, to live as children of the light\, refusing to let fear\, despair\, or hatred have the final word. Hope is finding our voice and speaking for others. Hope is finding the way of peace. \nPeace is not a commodity; it is our foundation. It is the bond that holds us together—not through uniformity\, not through exclusion\, not through despair\, but through faith\, hope\, and love. \nThis is why we pray. This is why we gather—even when we’re scattered across a diocese.\n\nBishop Shannon Duckworth will officiate Wednesday’s Compline and we are deeply honored to be joined by The Rev. Antonio Gallardo\, Bishop-elect of the Diocese of Los Angeles. \nSimply go to Facebook\, Instagram\, or our YouTube on Wednesday\, January 28 at 7 p.m. and the service will be streaming live. A recording will be available at a later date. \n\nLet us renew ourselves together so we can continue doing what we are called to do. \nLive Stream Links: \nFacebook\nInstagram\nYouTube\n  \nThe Rev. Antonio Gallardo\nBishop-elect of the Diocese of Los Angeles \nThe Rev. Antonio Gallardo is the rector of St. Luke’s / San Lucas\, Long Beach\, since 2023. Gallardo is the first Latino to be elected bishop in the Diocese of Los Angeles. \nHe was previously vicar of St. Luke’s of the Mountains\, La Crescenta\, and served on the clergy staff of All Saints\, Pasadena. Ordained to the priesthood in 2019 in the Diocese of Los Angeles\, he holds a doctorate in business and economics from Lehigh University\, as well as degrees from Venezuela’s Universidad Experimental Politécnica and Universidad Centro Occidental Lisandro Alvarado\, Claremont School of Theology and Bloy House Episcopal Theological School. \n \n

Please bring your own apron. \nRegister HERE.

SUMMARY:“Caring for Our Hearts” Community Dinner and Discussion
DESCRIPTION:St. Luke’s Church and School to Host “Caring for Our Hearts” Community Dinner and Discussion \nFebruary is recognized nationwide as Heart Month\, a time to raise awareness about heart health. This year\, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and School are expanding that focus to include the well-being of another vital set of hearts—our adolescents and teens. On Sunday\, March 15\, St. Luke’s will host “Caring for Our Hearts\,” a community dinner followed by a panel discussion designed to raise awareness and encourage conversation around youth mental and emotional health. \nIn Louisiana\, the leading causes of death among adolescents and young adults include motor vehicle accidents\, homicide\, and suicide. According to the Louisiana Department of Health\, suicide is the third leading cause of death for individuals ages 10–24 and 25–34 in the state. While the topic can be difficult\, awareness\, education\, and connection are important steps toward prevention and support. \nThe evening will begin with dinner at 5:30 p.m.\, followed by a panel discussion at 6:15 p.m. in Witter Hall. The event is open to the wider community and is especially encouraged for parents\, caregivers\, and teens. The goal is to provide a welcoming\, supportive space to learn\, listen\, and talk about how we can better care for the hearts—physical\, emotional\, and mental—of our young people. \nResearch shows that most individuals who experience suicidal thoughts do not die by suicide\, and that connection\, support\, and early intervention can make a meaningful difference. Through events like this\, St. Luke’s hopes to foster understanding\, reduce stigma\, and remind families that they are not alone. \nThose planning to attend are asked to RSVP via Signup Genius by March 12 at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0B45A5AF2BABF8C25-62145417-suicide \nSt. Luke’s Church and School are honored to offer this program as part of their ongoing commitment to caring for individuals\, families and the broader community.
