SUMMARY:Walking the Mourner's Path\, Facilitator's Training
DESCRIPTION:Grace Memorial Episcopal Church will be hosting training for the individuals to be trained to be facilitators for “Walking the Mourner’s Path” on November 5-7 2026\, from 8:30 am to 5 pm on Thursday and Friday and Saturday from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. We are inviting persons interested from across the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana\, as well as community members\, health care professionals\, others who are interested in learning to help people process their grief after a loss which could include a death\, divorce\, loss of relationship\, retirement\, loss of job\, etc. \n“Walking the Mourner’s Path” is a faith-based program that helps churches to reach out and serve those who experience loss and grief in their lives and their communities. The program consists of 8 weekly small groups centered in prayer. Leaders are trained lay and clergy that have been trained by the leaders of the facilitator training school. We are pleased to announce that Catherine Gilbert\, the program director and instructor will be with us during these 3 days. \nThe cost of the program is $275 (early registration which is 30 days prior to the school)\, standard registration $375 (29-10 days prior) and late registration $450. Lunch is included for Thursday and Friday. Registration must be completed on-line. The event is in Grace Memorial Episcopal Church’s Parish Hall. \nAccommodations: If you are in need of a hotel\, for the workshop\, there is a Home2 Suite (985) 332-2300\, Marriott Courtyard (985) 956-7730\, and a Holiday Inn Express (985) 240-4214. DESCRIPTION:Deacon Charles deGravelles will be joining other writers and musicians at a Poetry Reading Celebrating Louisiana’s Immigrants and Refugees on Saturday\, October 3\, 10 am to noon at the East Baton Rouge Public Library–Goodwood Branch. \nThe event\, jointly sponsored by the Poetry Society of Louisiana and the Louisiana Organization of Refugees and Immigrants\, is free and open to the public. \n“So many of us have felt helpless as we’ve watched the often unfair treatment of our immigrant friends and neighbors\,” deGravelles said. “The reading is a wonderful way we can come together to celebrate these wonderful people by honoring their cultures and heritage\, and by giving voice to their struggles and sacrifices.” \nThe reading will include work by Louisiana poets\, student poets\, and immigrant storytellers describing their often perilous journeys to get to the United States and their experiences on their way to becoming citizens. \nThe library is located at 7711 Goodwood Blvd\, Baton Rouge\, LA 70806.

This heartwarming event invites all pet owners and their beloved animals for a special blessing\, as well as an opportunity to contribute to a local cause. The Pet Blessing will take place on Saturday\, October 3rd at 9:30 am at St. Francis Episcopal Church\, 726 Maple Street\, Denham Springs. \nAll community Blessing members and their pets are welcome to attend this free event. In honor of St. Francis of Assisi\, the patron saint of animals\, pets of any and all kinds will be blessed. Please ensure all pets are safely contained or leashed for the comfort and safety of everyone attending. \nIn addition to the blessing\, the event will feature a pet food drive to support the Denham Springs Animal Shelter. Donations of Purina Cat\, Dog\, Puppy\, and Kitten food are preferred. The shelter is also collecting newspapers\, old sheets\, and towels to support their daily operations.\nThis annual event serves as a bridge between two churches and a symbol of unity within the community. Whether furry\, feathered\, or scaled\, all pets are invited to participate. Pet photos and stuffies are also welcome. \nSaint Francis of Assisi is the patron saint of animals and the environment because he is known for his love of all creation. Around his feast day\, October 4th\, we bless pets as a way to mark this day and honor his spirit. The gated entrance to Christwood is located on Christwood Boulevard\, just off East Brewster Road near its intersection with Louisiana 21. After entering Christwood look for signs directing traffic to The Atrium. \nThe one-hour Third Sunday Concerts are held monthly from September through May. Admission-free and open to the public\, they offer a variety of musical genres performed by professional artists. Each concert is followed by a reception with refreshments for the artists and audience members. The performances begin at 5 p.m. (doors open at 4:30 p.m.). At the Sept. 20 concert at Christwood\, titled “New Orleans Stride Songs and Psalms\,” Lemmler will use his New Orleans perspective for a jubilant exploration of how the classic stride piano style can embrace a variety of different songs\, including sacred pieces. \nRaised in the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans\, Lemmler has a bachelor of music degree from Loyola University\, New Orleans\, and a master’s degree from the Manhattan School of Music in New York City. During his early years he honed his musical prowess by collaborating with esteemed bandleaders from New Orleans\, including Bob French and The Original Tuxedo Jazz Band\, Herb Tassin and The Blue Room Orchestra\, and the renowned jazz clarinetist Pete Fountain. \nPresently\, he performs at concerts and several New Orleans venues\, including aboard the Steamboat Natchez with the John Mahoney Little Band\, and at Sunday morning jazz services at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Harvey and at the 5 p.m. service at Christ Church\, Covington. Lemmler is also a professor of jazz piano/improvisation at Loyola. \nLisbon-born Segundo has a rich background spanning classical orchestral percussion (including working as a guest timpanist with the Academy of Saint Martin in the Fields in\nLondon) and deep roots in jazz\, funk\, and world rhythms. Just a willingness to show up and go deeper. \nNot ready for a four-year commitment? EfM has recently introduced Wide Angle\, a one-year experience designed as a gentle on-ramp into the kind of deepening discipleship and adult learning that enriches your faith\, your relationships\, and how you move through the world. It can be taken on its own or alongside the traditional EfM program. \nTrinity will host two EfM classes this September: Mondays from 9:15-11:45 AM and Wednesdays from 9:15 – 11:45 AM. Space is limited\, and these groups become something rare: a community of people who have thought hard things through together. Monday class is at Christ Church Cathedral and Wednesday class is at Trinity Episcopal Church. \nIf you’re curious\, that’s enough to start.
