Diocesan Men's Retreat

The diocesan Men’s Retreat will take place September 26-28, 2008 at the Solomon Episcopal Conference Center in Robert, Louisiana. The Rev’d Paul Bailey, rector of Grace Memorial Church, Hammond, will lead the group through prayer and spiritual growth on the topic “Your Faith Has Made You Well.”

Bailey received his Master of Divinity degree from the Episcopal Seminary of the Southwest. He continued his pastoral education with a pair of two year extension programs, one in Spiritual Director and the other in Contemplative Leadership, from the Shalem Institute.

Retreats sponsored by the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana follow the traditional model of silent, meditative retreats. The retreat begins on Friday, September 26 with supper at 6:30 p.m.

Bailey will offer several meditations throughout the weekend. In addition, private spiritual direction sessions may be scheduled. Retreat participants are free and encouraged to take full advantage of the scenic grounds of the Solomon Center for walking, meditating, meditative (quiet) fishing, reading and relaxing. Attendance at meditations, voluntary spiritual director and all aspects of the Retreat is optional.

The cost for attendance is $204, including six meals and two nights lodging in private bedrooms (single occupancy.) A non-refundable deposit of $72 is required. Partial financial aid is available but should be arranged well prior to travel to Robert.

Episcopal Community Services is charged with awarding need-based scholarships to African American students at Episcopal schools. The scholarships are funded through a trust given to the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana by Frances Joseph Gaudet, a descendent of freed slaves and major philanthropist in New Orleans at the turn of the century.

In keeping with the spirit and legacy of Ms. Gaudet’s trust, ECS seeks to be responsive to the Gospel message by working for the benefit of children in need. Gala ticket sales will allow this vital ministry to expand and address the needs of the large community.

Tickets go on sale August 11th and can be purchased through the Columbia Theatre box office by calling 985.543.4371. General admission tickets are $45. Patron tickets, which include premium seating during the performance and an invitation to a cocktail reception and meeting with Fr. Guido Sarducci, are $150.
