Fire Damages St. Luke's Sacristy
by Heather Parker
A fire on May 5th damaged the sacristy of St. Luke’s, New Orleans. The fire destroyed vestaments, metalware, linens, thuribles and a monstrance or two, said the Rev’d Richard Easterling.
Fr. Easterling reports the church itself is sooty and smells “worse than Katrina, but appears to be cleaning up well.”
Church Resotration believes that parishioners may even be able to celebrate the Pentecost in the church, but without electricity.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
The sacristy was a later addition to the church structure and the wall between it and the church was brick, which thankfully preserved the church.
Fr. Easterling has posted photographs of the damage at: http://tinyurl.com/6ocvt2
