Walking to Jerusalem with Christ Church, Covington
Walk, run, bike, swim, however you do it, get moving. Christ Church is Walking to Jerusalem this Lent in an attempt to log 6,837 miles – the distance between Christ Church in Covington, LA and St. George’s Cathedral in Jerusalem. The Walk to Jerusalem, originally developed by St. John Providence Health System parish nursing, was designed to increase the physical, spiritual and emotional health of participants. We will provide a meditation each week and a list of walk leaders and locations to begin. You do not need to walk with any particular group. You can participate any time and simply send in your miles to amaxwell@christchurchcovington.com. Or you can join our Facebook page “Walking to Jerusalem with Christ Church Covington” and submit miles there. Each week the Facebook page will be updated with the meditations, information about walking groups and will be a great place for you to share pictures, videos and any other musings about your experience! If you are interested in being a walk leader for your neighborhood or leading a weekly group, please call Anne Maxwell at 985-892-3177. Health for your heart, mind and body. A blessed journey to you.

“Making Sense of the Cross” at St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church
3412 Haring Rd, Metairie

On Sunday, March 12th, we will begin Part One of a three-part ChurchNext series on Making Sense of the Cross.  In the video-based series, Prof. David Lose invites us to set aside all our ideas and theories about the cross and instead to think of it as an experience. He asks, “What if the gospels aren’t just a record of the cross but an invitation to experience God?”  As he reminds us, there’s a big difference between reading about something and actually doing it.  We will also cover Parts Two and Three on March 19th and April 2nd.  On March 26th, Fr. Michael will share with us a presentation on the Stations of the Cross. Consider making this part of your Lenten journey of walking with Jesus from passion and death to resurrection life.

Thomas Keating. Join Grace Church on Wednesdays from March 1-29 at either 9:00 am – 10:15 am or 6:00 pm – 7:15 pm. Call the church office to register 225-635-4065.

Jewish and Christian Apocalyptic: Daniel and the Revelation to John
Christ Church Cathedral, 2919 St. Charles Ave, New Orleans

Dates:  Wednesdays in Lent (March 8,15, 22,29 and April 5) 1:30-2:30 PM (Martin Room)
Judaism and Christianity had an idea of the meaning of history that differed from that of other ancient cultures and religions–they believed that God was in charge of history and that history was linear: that is moving from one place forward to another in accordance with God’s purposes (rather than moving in circles)–purposes that remained veiled at most times and to most people. Hence, apocalyptic literature (apocalyptical=hidden) was unique to the Jewish and Christian theological traditions.  We will read carefully from the Old Testament book of Daniel and from the Revelation to John. seeking out not only the special place that each occupies in their respective canons, but also their relevance today.

5:30 PM Eucharist; Dinner at 6:00 PM; Program 6:30 PM
6249 Canal St.. New Orleans

Hillary Raining’s forthcoming book Joy in Confession: Reclaiming Sacramental Reconciliation. St. Paul’s will be one of only a handful of congregations who have an advance copy of this book for study. That means the book is free to you! Challenge yourself this Lent to step into learning how the Rite of Reconciliation (aka “confession”) can be a transformational spiritual experience. If you would like to join the study, email Fr. Rob at rcourtney@stpauls-lakeview.org. We have Eucharist at 5:30 PM in the chapel, followed by dinner in the Parish Hall at 6:00 PM (a small donation is requested for the meal), and the program at 6:30 PM. All are welcome at any combination of those three parts of the evening.

Studying Henri Nouwen’s Finding My Way Home
8833 Goodwood Blvd, Baton Rouge

Entering its fourth year, the Soup & Salvation series at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church will once again present warm food and fellowship for Wednesday evening gatherings during Lent. This year in our Lenten Soup & Salvation study, we’ll try to find our way home together as we read and talk over Henri Nouwen’s short collection of essays entitled Finding My Way Home. In his touching and intimate style, Nouwen gives us four pathways that can lead us home, back to that place where God sees and loves us in a way that is beyond our words, to that place where our hearts are finally welcomed home, and transformed into that greatest Love of all. Wednesdays, March 8-April 5 in Pope Hall; program begins after 5:30 pm Eucharist, ending at 7:30 pm

Rising Strong™ Workshop Based on the work of Brené Brown
St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 12663 Perkins Rd, Baton Rouge

Rising Strong™ Workshop facilitated by the Rev Tommy Dillon and Lailey Jenkins

Rising Strong™ is a process based on the research of Dr. Brené Brown. Her pioneering work uncovered a profound truth: Vulnerability – the willingness to show up and be seen with no guarantee of outcome – is the only path to more love, belonging, creativity and joy. But living a brave life is not always easy: We are inevitably going to stumble and fall. The Rising Strong™ process is about what it takes to get back up and how owning our stories of struggle gives us the power to write a daring new ending.

This year we’ll hear from Senator Barbara Boxer, Christiana Peppard, Winston Halapua, Thabo Makgoba, Katharine Hayhoe, Maude Barlow, Kim Stanley Robinson, and others.
The St. James Center for Spiritual Formation is sponsoring the partner site at St. James Episcopal Church, and will be hosting the Thursday and Friday webcasts live from Trinity Church, Wall Street. The Wednesday evening keynote address by Senator Barbara Boxer will be viewed on delayed broadcast during Thursday breaks, and otherwise as interest warrants.
There is no fee to attend the simulcast at St. James, and registration is not required, but will be helpful for planning purposes. Cathedrals evolved to become spaces which invite the eyes and the heart to lift toward the heavens. The arches point the way for eyes to lift; the stained light from windows high above entice the vision higher; and the lofty vaulted ceilings complete the illusion.  Yoga teaches that the heart follows the eyes. This yoga practice will focus on opening the heart to loving kindness, accepting the human-ness of our selves and others and creating a lightness in the heart. But ‘you gotta move’ to teach your heart to open.  All Levels of Experience are Welcome  About the Instructor:  Jim Sones Studied yoga at the Satchidananda Ashram in southern Virginia and in South India and has been teaching classes in Pearl River County, Ms for almost 10 years. He teaches with the goal of helping people clear their minds and bodies of clutter through meditation and simple physical poses. Jim journeyed through Europe on a self-guided tour of cathedrals in the mid-90’s and has traveled to India three times to visit ancient temples. He is happy to have this opportunity to lead yoga classes in the setting of Christ Church Cathedral.
